Hello,

It's been some time since I've created a helpful thread or follow-along on this forum. In fact, I haven't been very active here since 2018.

During this time, I focused on learning media buying, and I found success by continuously running campaigns. Now, I feel that it's time for me to contribute to the community and share my knowledge with others on MMO. When I first joined, I was a complete beginner, but I learned a lot from this forum.

I decided to venture into the world of Adult Media buying, as I believed that the adult industry generates a lot of traffic, and sex is an appealing topic. With so many people watching porn every day, I thought it would be a profitable niche to explore.

I couldn't find many guides on media buying, especially in the Adult Media Buying space. Hence, I decided to share my experience and knowledge by creating a detailed guide or follow-along post for a new campaign.

Although the Adult Media Buying space has evolved over the years and become more challenging, some verticals like Dating, Cams, Adult Gaming, and Male Enhancement continue to dominate. The pandemic has impacted some verticals like Dating, but banner ads on tube sites still show significant potential in these areas.

Has anyone recently or in the past attempted Adult Media Buying, or is currently engaged in this field?

Trends in the industry come and go in waves, but those who stick to one strategy and stay focused on it tend to succeed in the long run.

It's an essential lesson that I want to emphasize to newbies - avoid being distracted by "shiny object syndrome" or chasing after whatever is currently popular. Instead, concentrate on one method that can generate income and commit to it for at least three months.

Many beginners tend to give up too quickly, so it's important to stay persistent and consistent.

Moving on to the guide or follow-along, I will be focusing on promoting a PPL (Pay-Per-Lead) Cam offer.

For newbies, it is advisable to begin with PPL offers rather than PPS (Pay-Per-Sale). This approach enables you to gather data quickly and identify what's working. Moreover, you don't need a large advertising budget to start because it's easier to persuade someone to join an offer for free rather than having them spend money to join.

By spending $50 on a PPL offer, you can generate a few leads or data. However, if you spend the same amount on a PPS offer, you might not get a single sale and won't have any sales data to analyze.

To get sufficient data on PPS offers, you will need to spend more money.

$3.50 X 3 = $10.5

For newbies wondering how much they should spend on an offer to gather enough data, a good rule of thumb is to spend three times the payout. For instance, if the Cam offer pays out $3.50, you should aim to spend at least $10.5 on the combination of banner, landing page, and offer before pausing if it doesn't generate any leads.

To ensure that I gather sufficient data, I aim to spend a minimum of $10.5 on the banner, landing page, and offer combination before pausing if it fails to generate any leads.

Here are the campaign details that I will be working with:

I will be working with the following campaign details:

Offer: Jerkmate DOI
which pays out $3.5
Ad Placement: Mobile header on Pornhub
targeting the USA. Spend Cap: $50 per day.

As you can see, I will be running a campaign for JerkMate, targeting the mobile header on Pornhub in the USA with a daily spend cap of $50.

I don't plan to spend excessively at the beginning of the campaign, as my goal is to test and observe how things work.

One common mistake made by newbies is trying to test too many variables at once. For example, testing ten different banner ads, ten different landing pages, and ten different offer pages.

I can relate to this way of thinking, as I also made the same mistake when I first started. The belief was that testing multiple variables would lead to finding winning combinations faster. However, this approach is not always effective.

If I were to break down the math on all of this, this post would become too long and potentially confusing. The key is to test more narrowly to gather enough significant data with the $50 budget across all possible combinations of the banner, landing page, and offer.

To keep the testing focused, I will be running only five banners and direct linking to two separate offer pages, resulting in a total of ten possible combinations.

I will be using Voluum tracking software as it is crucial to have a tracking solution. Without it, I wouldn't be able to determine which banner/offer combination is performing better than the others.

Out of the five banners that I'm testing, three are likely to perform poorly, while two will likely perform better than the rest.

Since I'm promoting a cam offer, JerkMate has many pre-made offer pages that I can test, so I can direct link to the offer page from the banner ad. If I were promoting a dating offer, I would need to test my pre-sell landing pages before directing traffic to the join/offer page.

In the case of promoting a dating offer, I would have to test five banners, two landing pages, and two offer pages.

I apologize for the inconsistent formatting in this post. I will update it with screenshots tomorrow and every day to make it easier to follow along with the results and the adjustments I'll be making.

If you have any questions about this follow-along, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm doing my best to contribute to MMO and provide assistance.

To purchase traffic from Pornhub, you can use TrafficJunky.com. Here's a tip: concentrate on high-volume sites such as Pornhub, RedTube, YouPorn, and Xvideos because they usually have better quality traffic than smaller spammy sites with numerous ads. Furthermore, focusing on high-volume sites enables you to scale up dramatically when you find winners. If you discover a winner on a low-volume site, it will be more challenging or even impossible for you to scale up.

My question is, if you're using direct linking, how is it still profitable? Many people will bid for header placements because they can easily convert by directly linking to their offer.

Great thread, by the way!

Great question.

It’s all about the numbers. The key is finding ways to achieve a slightly higher ROI or EPC than your competitors. Different banner and offer page combinations will yield varying conversion rates.

Some banners will have higher click-through rates (CTR) than others, and targeting plays a crucial role. For example, I'm currently targeting USA Mobile, but as I analyze the data, I might find that iOS performs better than Android. In that case, I could create separate campaigns for each, adjusting bid prices accordingly.

In the end, it’s all about the numbers—effective targeting and high banner CTR are crucial.

Another factor I forgot to mention is the payout.

If you can secure a higher payout than your competitors, it gives you an additional advantage. The strategy is to send quality leads consistently and then negotiate for a higher payout. Building strong relationships with your affiliate manager is crucial as well.

If you’re personable and treat them with respect, they’re more likely to assist you. The same applies to your traffic network representatives—they might share insider information like bid prices that your competitors might not have.

Day 1 Updates

I lost a bit of money, but that's expected on the first day of launch. At least it’s not too much.

The plan is to run the campaign as is for another 2 days, totaling 3 days before making any adjustments. It's crucial to let a new campaign run for at least 3 days to collect enough data before making decisions. Media buying can have unpredictable days, and the more data you gather over time, the better.

I’ll keep the daily budget capped at around $50 and then gradually increase it.

Spend: $56.72
Revenue: $49.00
Profit: -$7.72

This result isn't bad at all, especially considering it was just the first day of testing. Great job! I'm really curious to hear how you plan to make adjustments to turn that negative profit into a positive one.

Hey, great write-up! Thanks for sharing.

I have a few questions if you don't mind:

  1. What type of landing pages have you found to be most effective on adult traffic sites? Is it generally a concise page designed to capture an email address, or do longer pages that aim directly for the sale perform better?
  2. What's the current CPC or CPM on these sites? I know adult traffic used to be relatively cheap, but I wouldn't be surprised if the costs have gone up.
  3. Have you experimented with promoting non-adult offers on adult sites? If so, how have they performed?

I'll definitely be following this journey! I have some experience with adult CPA from the past, though it wasn't my most successful venture, haha. Best of luck to you, OP!

Hey Dabax, thanks for your questions!

  1. It really depends on the type of offer you're promoting. For dating offers, landing pages with a few pre-qualifying questions tend to work best. For PPS offers like male enhancement, I've tried long-form copy, but it doesn't seem to perform well; I think it's because the audience doesn't have the patience to read through it. Instead, classic fake-style blog posts or articles tend to yield better results.
If you spend some time manually scouting around, you'll notice which landing pages consistently show up. That's a good indicator that those pages are profitable for the advertiser.

  1. Prices have increased a bit, but not drastically. For Tier 1 countries, the average banner CPC is around $0.10 per click, but it varies widely. Factors like device type (desktop, mobile, tablet), ad format (banner, pop-under), and the specific country all influence CPCs and CPMs. It's a pretty broad question with no one-size-fits-all answer.
  2. I haven't tested non-adult offers on adult sites, and from what I've seen, they don't perform well. If you do some manual research, you'll find that 99% of the offers are related to adult content. Occasionally, you might see sex toys or weed ads in states where it's legal, and sometimes casino offers, but those are rare.

Day 2 Updates

Still losing a small amount, but I'm not too concerned.

Banner 598_04 is consistently performing the best so far. When it's time to optimize, I can simply pause the other banners and focus on running this one.

However, I want to gather more data because performance can shift. For example, banner 598_02, which was doing well, is starting to lose ROI today.

I need to collect more data over a longer period to confirm if 598_04 is truly the best performer.

Spend: $58.84
Revenue: $56.00
Profit: -$2.84

Day 3 Updates
Lost a bit more today, but that's okay. We're starting to see the top two performing banners, while the other three are dragging down the campaign.
The first screenshot shows today's update, and the second screenshot combines data over the three days.
As mentioned before, it's crucial to run a new campaign for at least three days to gather enough data and determine which banner/offer combinations perform the best.
We can see that banners 598_04 and 598_02 are performing well with around a 25% ROI. However, digging deeper, it’s clear that Tour Page 1 is doing quite well with these two banners, reaching up to a 45-60% ROI. These numbers might decrease as we scale up.
Next Steps:
  1. Pause the underperforming banners.
  2. Continue running the top two performing banners, directing traffic only to the JerkMate Tour 1 offer page.
  3. Scale up to around 100 leads per day to provide a steady stream of leads for the advertiser to assess quality before scaling further.
We can also dive deeper into the campaign data later to uncover more profits, such as targeting specific operating systems.
Spend: $59.86
Revenue: $49.00
Profit: -$10.86
Total Spend So Far Before Tweaking: $175.42
Total Revenue Before Tweaking: $154.00
Total Profit Before Tweaking: -$21.42

Day 4 Updates
We're in the profit zone!
Things are looking up now that I've removed the lowest-performing banners and offer tour page.
I'll keep monitoring over the next few days, and as performance begins to dip, I'll refine the targeting further and show how to maximize profits from the campaign.
Spend: $274.43
Revenue: $367.50
Profit: $93.07
Total Spend So Far: $449.85
Total Revenue So Far: $521.50
Total Profit So Far: $71.65

Still performing well.
The ROI is starting to drop slightly, which is expected as it reaches a stable point. With the weekend approaching, we often see good results during this time.
