Hello everyone,

I wanted to share my recent experience with Upwork regarding an overcharge on a freelancer I hired. Initially, when I reached out to their support team, they completely denied any wrongdoing. However, they later apologized and promised to issue a refund. Unfortunately, it has been a week since then, and I have yet to receive my money back. Today, I contacted them again and was informed that the transaction failed to my card.

Upon further investigation, I discovered that this issue has affected many other people as well. I urge you all to be cautious and diligently review your transactions if you are using Upwork.

Upwork, like numerous other companies nowadays, holds a significant amount of people's money at any given moment. If they confirm that they will refund you, chances are they will eventually do so, but it will be on their own timeline. It's unfortunate that Upwork initially tried to fool you, but you were able to identify their scam. Upwork appears to be emulating Paypal in the way it takes advantage of its users. Interestingly, Reddit serves as a widely-used platform for exposing such scams perpetrated by well-known companies.

In my opinion, it appears that the freelancer engaged in a fraudulent activity.

Upwork, not the freelancer, was the one who charged three times the agreed amount in the contract. The freelancer received only the amount specified in the agreement.

Wow, that is really unfortunate.

Many major corporations, including Upwork, capitalize on the favorable interest rate climate by retaining customer funds within permissible legal limits. By holding onto these funds without assuming any risks, they essentially earn "free" money. If Upwork refuses to issue a refund, you can contact your bank and cancel the credit card transaction, explaining the specific situation that transpired.

The money was already held, and the freelancer had received their payment; however, I later realized that I was charged three times the agreed amount. The freelancer was only paid according to the contract, and it was Upwork that imposed the triple charge.
