If you're looking to start a small project on a budget, here's my method for doing so at less than $15 per year per project website, including a fast CDN.
I begin by registering an account with HostKoala for the minimum package of $5 per year. I always keep the websites on separate packages to maximize server resources. I don't buy a package and install multiple domains/WordPress sites on it. I then pair this with a CDN from BunnyCDN for a minimum fee of $10 per year. This results in a fast and affordable solution that is easy on your cheap hosting and makes your visitors and Google happy.
I have personally used this combination on my own small projects, using servers in the EU and the Netherlands, and have achieved 100% uptime with load speeds ranging from 250-600ms on a well-optimized WordPress installation. However, your results may differ based on location. I recommend selecting a server location close to your visitors and where BunnyCDN has a POP in the same area.
By using this combination, you can get started for only $15 per year. The cost decreases further if you already have a BunnyCDN account, as you can add as many domains/websites as you want, including your own CDN subdomain such as cdn.example.com.
I hope this information is helpful to someone. =)
If you combine this with a subscription form from mmolearn.com and their plugins and themes, you will be a winner!
