I've been considering creating another follow-along thread on MMO, with a focus on making it accessible for beginners. The aim is to illustrate how to build a profitable campaign from scratch.

To provide some context, I have been working as an Adult Media Buyer for the past decade. My main focus has been on paying for banner advertisements on major adult tube sites and earning profits as an affiliate. I typically promote PPL and PPS offers in areas such as Adult Dating, Male Enhancement, Webcams, and Adult Gaming.

This journey will detail the process of scaling up adult media buying campaigns to generate profits exceeding $1,000 per day. It's a challenging path that requires extensive testing, but the potential financial rewards are substantial once you figure it out.

The demand for adult media buying goes through waves of popularity, with the current trend not being as hot as before. However, it is important to note that the adult industry is an evergreen niche that will always have a market in some form. While the industry may evolve with new rules and regulations, one has to adapt to the changing market. Nonetheless, there will always be a consistent demand for adult content, as there are always new people reaching legal age and looking for such content online. This is a constant truth that is unlikely to change.

3 / 3
Every day, significant amounts of money ranging from 1000`s to even 100.000$`s of dollars are being spent on adult media buying. There is a vast amount of traffic available globally, extending beyond just the US market.
Moving on, my preferred campaign to operate is in the dating niche. It is also the most straightforward option for beginners to begin with. Therefore, the following guide will focus on a dating campaign.

I cannot reveal all the details of my campaign, including the exact targeting strategy, to avoid direct competition that could potentially make my campaign unprofitable and unsuccessful. However, I am willing to share some information to assist beginners in the industry.

The campaign is focused on the USA market, targeting the Mobile Header placement on PornHub.com. It involves five banners, two landing pages, and two offers.

It is essential to understand that many beginners make the mistake of testing too many variables simultaneously when starting out, such as using over 10 banners, landing pages, and various offers. Although the intention behind this approach is to quickly identify what works and scale it up, it requires a significant budget for just one day to gather sufficient data to determine which combination of banner, landing page, and offer is profitable.

To illustrate, having 10 banners, 10 landing pages, and 5 offers means that there are 500 potential combinations to test, which is an overwhelming amount to test accurately.

It is advisable to test strategically by using a smaller number of variables when starting, such as with five banners, two landing pages, and two offers, which results in only 20 possible combinations to test. (Further elaboration on this concept can be provided in future posts, as it may be too complicated to discuss in detail at present).

In addition, to gain a clear understanding of what is effective, I will be limiting the spending to $50 per day for three consecutive days. This will provide an overview of which elements are working successfully.

Another crucial aspect to note is that it is recommended to let a new campaign run without making any changes for at least three consecutive days to collect enough relevant data. Some days may perform poorly, while others may perform excellently. Therefore, if you terminate a campaign after the first day of low performance, you may miss out on the possibility of achieving a break-even or near break-even result in the following two days.

To summarize:

Placement: PornHub.com Mobile Header USA

Spending Limit: $50 per day

The campaign involves promoting two offers, namely Adultdates - SOI - Responsive and 99hookups - SOI - Responsive, through the affiliate network CrakRevenue.com.

As of now, the campaign has been active for two days and is currently on its third day. I will post the comprehensive breakdown of the campaign's performance tomorrow, encompassing all three days of data. This will enable me to demonstrate how I analyze the data and commence adjusting elements to achieve profitability.

Day 3 Updates

My campaign has been running for three days now! Let’s check out how the banners have been doing so far:

image 1.webp

Banners 1, 2, and 5 aren’t getting as many clicks compared to the others. Their click-through rates (CTR) are low, and since I’m paying for every 1000 times the banner shows up (CPM), the cost per click (CPC) for these banners is too high. The best move is to stop using these banners.

Now, let’s check how the landing page (LP) and offer are performing…

image 2.webp

image 3.webp

Both offers and landing pages are performing pretty much the same. The UberSex landing page has fewer leads, but since the click-through rates (CTR) are similar for both, I’m going to keep testing them for now.

The biggest change in performance shows up when we look at how different operating systems (OS) are doing. Let’s take a closer look…

image 4.webp

We can see that Android is getting an EPV (Earnings Per View) of 0.139, while iOS is only at 0.064. That’s a huge difference! This means the ROI (Return on Investment) for Android is just -7%, but for iOS, it’s much worse at -56%.

On my traffic network, Traffic Junky, the CTR (Click-Through Rate) for Android banners is also much higher than for iOS.

Here’s the plan moving forward:

  1. Stop using banners 1, 2, and 5, and focus all the traffic on banners 3 and 4.
  2. Start a new campaign that targets only Android users.
Once we do that, we should start seeing better profits, especially when we analyze which OS and banner combos are the most profitable, and then test landing page and offer combinations.

Total Spend: $159.85
Revenue: $103.20
Profit/Loss: -$56.65
ROI: -35.44%

These numbers aren’t too bad for the first three days of testing! It’s normal to expect some losses when starting a new campaign. We’ll dig into the data to find more ways to improve and turn things around later.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! 😉

Day 4 Progress:

image 1.webp

We’re finally seeing profits!

By cutting the weaker banners and focusing on Android, things are turning around, and we’re moving into the positive.

In the next few days, I’ll push things further and keep testing the two banners, landing pages, and offers to see if any specific combination boosts the EPV.

Total Spend: $218.75
Revenue: $183.15
Profit/Loss: -$35.60
ROI: -16.27%

Day 5 Progress:

image 1.webp

Total Spend: $325.35
Revenue: $322.50
Profit/Loss: -$2.85
ROI: -1.00%

I’m planning to ramp things up even more today, dig deeper into the stats, and make some tweaks to push for a higher ROI. I’ll probably let the campaign run over the weekend and then review the stats from the past few days to see what’s performing the best! :)

Day 6 Update:

image 1.webp

Day 6 Summary:

  • Total Spend: $608.35
  • Revenue: $690.90
  • Profit/Loss: $82.55
  • ROI: 14%
I’m starting to ramp things up today, and it's looking good with about 30% ROI so far... $85 profit, which isn’t bad!

I’ll keep it at this pace over the weekend, then review the data for Android to see if I can increase the ROI and scale up to spending around $500-$1,000 a day.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions! :)

Day 7 Update:

image 1.webp

Day 7 Summary:

  • Total Spend: $922.95
  • Revenue: $1,164.30
  • Profit/Loss: $241.35
  • ROI: 26%
Today was great since it’s the weekend... good profits, but as I scale up, I expect the ROI to go down a bit—this usually happens when you scale. I’ll keep going over the weekend and share a full breakdown of the stats on Monday.

Hi, are you only promoting offers with DirectToForm pages? I noticed on CR that many offers have their own pre-sell pages.

Day 8 Update:

Hey everyone! It’s been 8 days since I started this journey, and for the last 5 days, I’ve been focusing on Android OS targeting with my top 2 banners.

Now it's time to dig deeper into the campaign and find out which specific Banner, Landing Page, and Offer combination is giving the best ROI. We have enough data now to make smart adjustments.

With these new tweaks, we can scale up the campaign even more and still expect a good ROI (even though the ROI might drop a little when we scale, which is normal).

image 1.webp

In the screenshot above, I looked at the last 7 days to make sure I covered the last 5 days of my campaign.

Next, I broke down the data by Banner, Landing Page, and Offer, then sorted it to show the highest EPV value from top to bottom.

QUICK SIDE LESSON: Many "experts" won’t talk about EPV (Earnings Per View), but it’s actually better to focus on than EPC and ROI.

When you check your campaign data, if you focus on EPC (which you’ll see I don’t even have in my stats), it only shows values based on visitors who click on your Landing Page and go to the offer page.

Some affiliates look at their EPCs in their affiliate network and match it with their CPC in the traffic network, but this can mislead them because it doesn’t calculate from the first point of entry, which is the visitor clicking on your banner ad. That’s what you’re paying for in the traffic network.

When you focus on EPV, it measures how much you earn from each visitor who clicks on your banner ad. Then you can subtract this value from your CPC in the traffic network, giving you more accurate data.

Basically, by looking at EPV, you know exactly how much you can pay per click in your ad network to make a profit. As long as your EPV is higher than your CPC, you're in a good spot.

This approach is better than just focusing on ROI because ROI only gives you a percentage, not a specific dollar amount to work with.

I hope that makes sense!

END OF QUICK SIDE LESSON

Now, looking at the stats breakdown, we can see that banner 4 is performing better than banner 3.

Also, the UBER SEX landing page isn't making much profit.

There’s a bit of a tie between Adult Dates and 99 Hookups, with some combinations working well and others not—so the data is a bit random.

I plan to remove banner 3 and the UBER SEX landing page, so the only ones running will be:

  • Banner 4
  • Mom Sex Chat Landing Page
  • Both offers split 50/50
I’ll scale this up for a few days and then check the results.

Overall Spend: $1,247.45
Revenue: $1,605
Profit/Loss: $357.55
ROI: 29%

How did you decide to promote 99hookups and AdultDates? Are you sending traffic straight to the signup page?

How did you decide to promote 99hookups and AdultDates? Are you sending traffic straight to the signup page?

I picked these offers because they have high earnings per click (EPC) and are single opt-in (SOI) offers. I look for offer pages that have a signup form so I can use my own pre-sell landing pages.
