Hey everyone,

I've spent several years as a content creator on Facebook, using it to drive traffic to my dropshipping store. I sold that venture about a year ago and now I'm contemplating opening an Amazon store through FBA. Since I travel extensively for work, the idea is to purchase stock from Alibaba and have it sent directly to Amazon to minimize daily involvement.

I've experimented with Helium 10, identified some products, and found a supplier on Alibaba (although the shipping costs seem steep compared to AliExpress). Now, I'm in the process of starting, but I'm a bit unsure about the initial steps.

Do I absolutely need ads? If so, how can I go about it, and where can I find a genuinely good tutorial or course about it, avoiding the typical guru recommendations? I've attempted ads on Facebook for my dropshipping e-commerce, only to lose money every time.

Considering competition in every niche, my product is likely to start from the last page of Amazon. Can someone guide me on the right way to start, study, and give it a try?

Appreciate any insights

You need to invest time and patience, especially if you’re aiming for a long-term solution or business. From my experience, having one product with excellent reviews that continues to sell well each month (even across seasons) has been key.

Select a product you understand or are willing to learn about, and find ways to improve or differentiate it. Consider why customers would choose your product over others—what makes it unique?

Once you have a product in mind, calculate the costs of acquiring it from your supplier or manufacturer. Then factor in Amazon FBA fees and other costs, and determine the profit margin you need or want.

Focus on one product at a time (just my opinion) until you're confident it can generate consistent, long-term sales—ideally hundreds, not just one or two a week. Consider your keywords, text, and images carefully. For high-quality photos, you might use services like Fiverr.

Think about trademarking your business to enhance its professionalism and share your story. If you’re selling a generic item, aim to be a market leader. Set ambitious targets, conduct thorough research, and ensure your numbers add up.

When sourcing, take the time to find a manufacturer rather than just a supplier. Manufacturers can often help with product development, so have a clear idea of your goals.

These are just some basic tips—typed quickly!

Feel free to ask for more information, but please be specific with your questions.

Thank you so much for your response; it’s exactly what I was looking for—the perspective of someone who has succeeded. I agree with your approach: building a brand, creating compelling ads, and striving to be a leader sounds fantastic. For now, though, I think it’s better for me to start with something generic, not to make millions but to understand how FBA works. I would love to have a conversation with you if possible.

The brands I work with perform significantly better than generic products. With generic items, you often end up in price wars with little to no leverage.
