This thread is geared towards people who share a passion for web design and are similarly focused on optimization, just like myself
When I resumed web design a few years ago, I became rather obsessive about website performance and optimization. However, I eventually realized that achieving a perfect score of 100/100 or A100, or any other maximum score, was unattainable once you start adding content to your site.
If you participate in WP/Dev Facebook groups or peruse certain forums, you may come across people who criticize WP page builders. They claim that these builders are either inferior, slow, or dysfunctional.
As I finish up my agency site, I decided to run some tests to identify any flaws or errors and see how it compared to competitors with multi-million dollar budgets, even though two out of three competitors also use WP. I'm assuming that these competitors have opted for custom coding.
I conducted my test using GTmetrix, and my results are presented from left to right: my agency's site, the biggest agency in my country, one of the biggest publicissapient (formerly Razorfish) in the world, and one of the top five worldwide WebFx.
Despite ongoing testing of some plugin settings and running multiple tests, my full load time is not currently the fastest. However, my overall website performance is better compared to my competitors. Interestingly, I ran the test again, and the full load time improved to 2.4 seconds, showcasing the impact of server load.
Next, I checked my site using Pingdom and compared it with the fastest competitor using the closest servers to both them and myself. I'm pleased to report that the results were very good.
While it's true that I have fewer requests, which contributes to my faster load times, this factor only influences certain metrics on GTMetrix, which as we've seen, has its flaws. Nonetheless, WebFx is truly a beast in this space, boasting an annual revenue of around $53 million.
Despite my limited resources and having to host my own website, I feel proud of the progress I've made in overcoming many obstacles during the setup process. I also compared my site with many local competitors, but unfortunately, the majority of them are subpar.
If you have any questions about optimization, don't hesitate to ask me. I'd be happy to help out in any way I can!
For anyone curious, this is my current website setup:
If you have any questions about my setup or optimization in general, feel free to ask. Peace!
