G-Ads Google Ads Not Working

I’m trying to run Google Ads for a cleaning business in a city with 2.3 million people.

I’m using Exact Match keywords (high buying intent) with Max Clicks set just below the Top of Page Bid. I plan to switch to Maximize Conversions after gathering about a month’s worth of conversion data.

The search volume for the keywords is good, so that’s not the issue.

My negative keywords don’t overlap with my Exact Match keywords since they don’t share any common words (like “buy,” “how to,” etc.).

The campaign went into Bid Strategy Learning for 5 days, and everything looked fine. Now the ads are supposed to run, but when I logged into my Google Ads account to check why they weren’t running, I saw this message:

My Google Ads manager called me about 10 minutes after I logged in and introduced himself.

He suggested using only Broad Match and Maximize Conversions. I told him I absolutely wouldn’t use Broad Match and that I would switch to Maximize Conversions after a month of data. He responded, “I understand. Since the ad strength is good, if you prefer not to use broad match, we can use phrase match instead. Phrase match has a wider reach than exact match but still keeps more targeted relevance than broad match.”

I told him that Exact Match and Maximize Clicks are perfectly fine. I know the differences between match types and how they affect my budget and the search queries my ads will show up for.

Now, he’s not replying to me, and the campaign just sits there with 0 clicks and 0 impressions.

How can I fix this and get my ads running?

Thanks!

I think it mainly depends on the budget.
Also, when you say, "My Google Ads manager called," where did that happen? Is it listed on a third-party partner page?

Here’s what I’d suggest checking:

  1. Make sure there’s money in the account balance. It sounds obvious, but I’ve seen this happen before :)
  2. Check if your campaign's budget is enough. If your cost per click is high, but your budget only covers a few clicks, that could be the issue. Also, you mentioned setting the click price just below the Top of Page Bid with the “Maximum clicks” strategy. This can limit all keywords to the same CPC, even though they might need different amounts.
If the balance and budget are good, try using manual bid control and slowly adjust the CPC while tracking when your ads start showing.

Good luck!

Make sure your bid strategy is set up correctly. If you're using Max Clicks, check that your bids are high enough to show your ads. You might also want to raise your daily budget.

He called me and said he was my account helper. He told me there were some changes needed before the ads could start. He works for the company and already knew about my ads without me telling him. He mostly wanted me to change to Broad Match and use Maximize Conversions so I would spend more money.

I don’t really know what the Third-Party Partner Page means?

  1. The money is connected to a credit card I’ve used before with Google Ads, so it should be fine.

I picked a manual max CPC of $7.60. The Top of Page Bid was about $7.90 for the most expensive word, and all the other keyword bids are lower than that, some even close to $4.30. So being 30 cents less than the highest should still get some clicks and views, right?

I set the daily budget to $88, which should get me more than 10 clicks each day.

If the balance and budget are good, try using manual bid control and slowly adjust the CPC while tracking when your ads start showing.

Maybe try setting it to $9 or $10 and see if that helps?

I’ve been emailing the Google Ads helper, and he just tells me to change to Broad Match or Phrase Match so the ads will show. But that doesn’t make sense because Exact Match should work if nothing else in the campaign is different.

There are enough people searching for Exact Match keywords (like pressure cleaning in "city" and similar words buyers use), so the keywords I picked definitely have competition, and the ads should show for them.

After what the helper said, I really don’t know what else could be stopping this campaign from running.

Hi Genesis,
Can I ask what your keywords are? It’s probably because of your daily budget or how your page is set up. Some keywords don’t get many searches, so you need to make your landing page better to get more clicks on your exact keywords. Maybe try raising your daily budget to $210 just to see if it helps.

Hi,

My keywords are things like: pressure cleaning in the city, pressure cleaning, pressure cleaning nearby, pressure cleaning service, pressure washing in the city, pressure washing, pressure washing nearby, pressure washing service.

These keywords get a lot of searches and have competition from both ads and regular search results.

The landing page is set up like good On-Page SEO—main keyword in the H1 title, first sentence, H2, H3, and spread out through the whole page.

I could try raising the daily budget to see if that helps, but I still thought that with 9 to 14 clicks a day, it should already be running.
