I ventured into dropshipping in late 2019 after witnessing my friends achieve decent earnings of around $1-2k per month. Inspired by their success, I swiftly created a basic Shopify store within an hour and used ecom spy websites to identify potential products. With a borrowed $100, I launched my first five advertisements at $20 each and one of the products turned out to be a tremendous success. I made approximately $2-3k from that single product, and within my first month, my dropshipping venture brought in around $30k. However, my challenges began with Facebook shortly thereafter. By the end of the year, I only managed to make an additional $30k due to various issues on the platform.
Once I addressed the problems with Facebook, I encountered difficulties with Shopify payments. Admittedly, I was a novice in the field and had only tested around 15 products collectively. Fortunately, most of them performed exceptionally well. It's worth mentioning that I primarily sold in Europe. Meanwhile, my friends connected with several people in the industry during their trip to Bali and shared my strategies with them. Leveraging their experiences, they became millionaires within a year.
After quitting for approximately six months, I decided to give it another shot. This time, I resolved to find an untapped market in my own country where there were ample opportunities. Eventually, I discovered the perfect country, and that's when I started making significant profits. For two months, everything ran smoothly, and I generated around €300k. However, out of nowhere, disaster struck. My Facebook account was hacked and maliciously used to run illegal ads. It was devastating, considering my Facebook presence was immaculate. I haveed 50 Business Managers and multiple accounts, all in perfect working condition. Despite Facebook kindly refunding the lost €10k, they refused to reactivate my accounts. I tried everything imaginable—new accounts, purchased accounts, borrowing accounts from friends, even traveling to other countries to acquire accounts—but to no avail. That marked the end of my successful online selling journey, as I lost motivation and had substantial funds in my account. Although I made sporadic attempts to revive my business (including exploring Google, TikTok, Snapchat, and Pinterest), none geted significant results. While I had a knack for identifying profitable products and markets, the lack of capital hindered my ability to sell in Europe again.
Now, in late 2022, I find myself running out of funds. I recently made an attempt to reenter the field, but I have sworn off Facebook entirely. I experimented with TikTok, which showed promise, but without sufficient capital, I feel unable to resume selling in Europe. Currently, I am exploring new opportunities, which seem encouraging, but that is a separate topic.
Since I have essentially quit dropshipping due to the unfortunate circumstances I faced with Facebook, I am more than willing to share the secrets of the business. Please feel free to ask any questions. However, I prefer not to divulge specific details such as the country I operated in or anything that could potentially identify me. Although I am currently financially strained, I have built friendships with many prominent dropshippers worldwide, and I haven't reveald my experiences to them.
By the way, I don't believe dropshipping is over; I simply think it has become more challenging than before.
