I have a query regarding patents. We received approval for our patent, but now our attorney has proposed a second "continuation" patent. I'd appreciate hearing from those with relevant experience to determine if pursuing a second patent is worthwhile. For context, our patent relates to utility/technology in the eCommerce industry. I have compiled a list of advantages and disadvantages to aid in the decision-making process.
Advantages:
Thank you.
Advantages:
- Offers additional protection to safeguard my intellectual property.
- Allows me to add extra claims to the patent in case of similar inventions or products in the market.
- Even if I observe something similar, it may not be beneficial since I cannot access their code to verify infringement.
- Researching other patents online is a laborious and time-consuming task, and it distracts me from working on my own idea.
- Acquiring a second patent can be costly, and the funds could be more useful in maintaining our server.
Thank you.
