Trying to understand how Reddit’s phone-app system works behind the scenes.

I’ve been trying to figure out how the Reddit phone app works, and I’m wondering if anyone here has ever looked into how a big app like that is built. I’ve done lots of projects that use normal APIs before, so some parts feel kind of familiar, but this seems a bit different. When I check what the app sends out when you try to make a post, it looks like it sends a bunch of different messages, not just the one that posts the thing.

So I’m mostly asking if there’s anything I should watch out for, or if anyone has learned anything from studying how other big social apps work. I know people here don’t usually share all their tricks, but any general ideas would be really helpful.

It really depends on what you’re trying to do with the Reddit phone tools. If you’re thinking about making a new account through them, you should be careful, because the app pays close attention to how people use it.

But if you’re only planning to do simple things, like adding a comment or tapping an upvote, the regular Reddit setup already lets you do those kinds of actions. Their newer system works the same way for those parts, so you wouldn’t need to do anything extra or complicated.

Thanks a lot for the help! I really appreciate it. I’m planning to try it out on comments first and then move on to making posts. Have you ever made an account like this before?

I can say I’ve tried making an account before, but I’m really just learning about Reddit right now. My first try didn’t go well, and the account got blocked pretty fast. I know I messed up somewhere, but I’m not sure where.

If you want, I can tell you more about what happened, because I still remember it. It wasn’t hard to set things up, but it didn’t last long.

From what I’ve seen, if a new account gets blocked almost right away, something about the setup wasn’t good. If it stays around longer, it usually means things were done better.

I’m not using a phone right now. I’m on the computer, and everything works fine for me. My accounts are doing okay, and I haven’t had any trouble with them. I’m also not rushing when I make a new one, which helps a lot.

I looked at things for a pretty long time and wrote down what I noticed.

I’ll say it again—don’t stress about using a phone for this. The computer version works really smoothly.
